A few words from a very tired Dianne

So the honeymoon is over.....over the weekend all of your sons and daughters had a grand time experiencing life in the residence hall, eating in the cafeteria (even though some have some concerns over food that is differerent from your home cooking), playing Dan's amazing collection of video games, and going on short jaunts around town.

On Monday classes started and everyone's stress thermometers rapidly approached 8 and 9 on a regular basis.  There are some studens who have difficulties sitting in class for a long block of time, others who hate writing assignments, some who can't drag themselves out of bed early (could have something to do with late night movies and games??!)  Schedules have been slightly modified; when there were relatively no computer problems (Hooray for Pat Benekos and her IT staff!!) but LOTS of questions about food, we switched the schedule to allow Chef Marcie to talk to students.  At one point construction on campus made finding the assigned vans "mission impossible."  So the best laid plans sometimes need to change---and some of your sons and daughters find change hard to accept.

College classes mean writing papers, reading chapters and studying for tests.  BUT, there is a full staff of people ready and willing to help them transiton to the pace of college work.  Please know we are doing everything we possibly can to learn about each of their strengths and challenges and to support them in every way we know.

Our staff is trying to respond to phone calls and emails as quickly as we can.  As Nick put it so well a few days ago, "our work is just beginning."  We can't wait to show you the growth that they WILL experience by the next time you see them.
