Update from Megan in our Recreation Staff

Hey All-- Its Megan!!
Yesterday (Tuesday) was a lot less hectic than Monday. As you all know, Monday was our first day of classes. Class went a little smoother than the first class. The students were assigned new readings and were told to keep up with their studying. It seems as if the students are starting to settle in and get a grasp of what a "college" class is truly like.
After the class and all of the meetings, the students took part in an informational meeting that took place in Egan Dining Hall. The meeting included all the services the cafeteria offers. The students seemed to be thoroughly engaged in the topics presented.
After returning to the dorms, the students were encouraged to take part in the recreational time. A specific time has been set aside for structural recreational time. I have been put in charge of doing physical activities. This is a great opportunity for our students to let loose and have fun. Not only does this present a fun activity for the kids, it is also a great opportunity for me. As some of you heard in our informational meeting on move in day, I am a Physical Education teacher in the Erie School District. I have taught high school Physical Education for the past 2 years. Recently, the district has found themselves in extreme debt, having to let a couple hundred teachers go. It just so happens that I was one of those teachers. I have decided to go back to school to get my Masters in Adapted Physical Activity. The Foundations program has given me a wonderful opportunity to get some experience with my future field of study. It has truly been wonderful working with your child, even if we aren't even through our first full week. That being said, yesterday was HOT!! We played water games outside for our recreational time. We first started with Clothes Pin Tag. Each student was given a clothes pin. If they got tagged, a clothes pin was handed to the person who tagged them. The person who had the most clothes pins at the end won the game. Our winner was Nate aka "Young Snipes". After tag, we had a water relay race. All the students were wet after the race. The last and final water game was a water toss. We set up like a water balloon toss and attempted to throw the water back and forth into the cups. Our winners were Josh and Nate (again!). After the games, they all thought it would be a wonderful idea to SOAK ME! They dumped buckets of water on me after the games. Thank goodness it was hot out! All in all, we are having a great time! I am still looking forward to the next couple weeks! Keep up the reading!!!
